Morph Upgraded with SP1 to Supercharge Faster, Cheaper, and More Secure Transactions

Morph Mainnet is advancing the global consumer layer with seamless, user-friendly dApps, and is now taking a significant leap forward through a strategic upgrade with Succinct. By integrating Succinct’s SP1, Morph is introducing an industry-first Responsive Validity Proof (RVP). Known for leading zkVM infrastructure, SP1 brings unmatched efficiency and power to zero-knowledge proofs. This upgrade makes Morph more accessible, secure, and efficient for all users.

RVP: Morph’s Hybrid Approach to L2

Layer 2 blockchains are designed to accelerate transactions and reduce costs while maintaining strong security. Ethereum often experiences network congestion, resulting in slow confirmations and high gas fees. L2 blockchains tackle this issue by operating as separate, optimized networks that enhance speed and efficiency. The transactions processed on these networks are bundled and recorded on Ethereum, ensuring they inherit its security

Layer 2s typically approach scaling through:

  • Optimistic Rollups: These operate under the assumption that transactions are valid unless contested, similar to “trust but verify.” This optimistic design requires a 7-day challenge period for disputers to submit fraud proofs, meaning it takes 7 days for users to move assets off the L2.
  • ZK Rollups: Unlike Optimistic rollups which rely on fraud proofs and challenge periods, ZK rollups leverage zero-knowledge proofs to mathematically prove the validity of all transactions. When a batch proof is verified on L1, transactions are instantly finalized without requiring any challenge window.

So what does Morph do differently?

Morph built Responsive Validity Proofs (RVP), blending the strengths of both optimistic and ZK rollups. It starts with the speed and low costs of optimistic rollups, and only uses ZK proofs if a transaction is challenged. This approach leads to faster finality—reducing wait times from 7 days to 2—while maintaining lower costs since ZK proofs are used selectively. The result is enhanced security, leveraging rigorous cryptographic verification when necessary.

Morph Mainnet Accelerated with SP1

Morph’s Responsive Validity Proof (RVP) system has now morphed into the optimal design with our mainnet launch, enhanced by SP1. Succinct, uniquely enables Morph’s RVP with their blazing fast zkVM and excellent developer experience. It represents a generational shift in how zkEVMs are built, custom circuits are a relic of that past. This upgrade refines RVP's capabilities, pushing the boundaries of scalability and security in blockchain applications.

Our RVP system now:

  • Uses a generic, more developer-friendly Rust-based implementation
  • Generates proofs orders of magnitudes faster with SP1’s Prover Network
  • Handles unlimited transactions per block (previously capped at 100)

For users, this means:

  • Improved security and smoother user experience (thoroughly audited codes with faster challenge resolution and 2-day settlement)
  • Lower costs (more efficient proof generation for off-chain computation)
  • More scalable (no more transaction caps)

Building the Global Consumer Layer

Our goal as the global consumer layer is to let the technology operate seamlessly in the background, elevating user experience. Think of the SP1 upgrade as giving your smartphone a next-gen processor—complex in design but simple in its impact. Whether gaming, trading, or engaging with DeFi apps, Morph becomes more powerful while staying unobtrusive. Thanks to Succinct’s SP1, we’ve reinforced the path to mainstream adoption, making blockchain benefits more accessible to everyone.
